90 unit stellated dodecahedron

90 units stellated dodecahedron using Bascetta units designed by Paolo Bascetta

I used 5 cm square papers from Tuttle publising....

I actually wanted to fold rhombicosidodecahedron.... But when i started assembling the pentagons were very unstable... They kept falling out... I didn't want to use glue, hence decided to assemble stellated dodecahedron.... 3 unit assemble is very stable unlike 5 units...

No glue used....

Until next time..Sayonara... πŸ™‹πŸ™‹πŸ™‹

360 units Bucky ball

360 units hybrid Bucky ball

I made this 360 unit Bucky ball using two types of units.

Generally  a kusudama is made out of one type of unit.

For the pentagons I've used penultimate units designed by Robert Neale... This requires 3:4 paper ratio...

http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~jplank/plank/origami/penultimate/pentagon.html

For the hexagons I've used phizz units by Tom Hull...

60 penultimate units
300 phizz units...

No glue used

Tom Hull demonstrated in his video how to build larger Bucky balls. I used that as a reference..

It demands lot of patience and is time consuming. It might have taken around 4-5 days to complete. While folding the units, i felt it was never ending... I felt like, why did I even take up this project... Nevertheless kept going. It was fun, tiresome, frustrating, interesting... I also felt like I shouldn't have taken penultimate units, rather i could have used phizz throughout.... Because penultimate units were little tricky to assemble, it got confusing too where to use penultimate units...

I used 5 cm square papers from Tuttle

In the photo you can see the pentagons using penultimate units are bumpy.

Until next time.... Happy folding 🌺🌺🌺🌺

270 units Bucky ball using phizz units

270 units Bucky ball using phizz units designed by Thomas Hull

5 cm squares used

Final model height : 19 cm diameter

No glue used

Started on: 2 April 2023

Completed on: 6 April 2023

Rainbow colours papers by Tuttle

For size reference i have placed 270 units and 120 units Bucky ball together. Both are folded using same size papers 5cm.

Tom Hull has made a video on how to fold large Bucky balls. He explains the 270 units and 360 units Bucky ball structure. I used that as reference to fold this polyhedron. I'm totally addicted to these Bucky balls. It's a lot of fun.

The assembly is extremely study. Doesn't require glue at all... It's a pleasure to assemble..

Star flex unit

This is a test fold to prove the universality of the star flex unit designed by Khin Hooi

Polyhedron - Rombicuboctahedron... One of the archimedean solids

5 cm square papers used

48 units

The assembly is very sturdy and can be done without any glue.

Final model is very stable and sturdy

Tutorial for this is still private, not released by Khin. Hence not sharing.
