120 unit Bucky ball using phizz units

120 unit Bucky ball using phizz units designed by Thomas Hull @tomstermath

I used 5 cm squares

Final model height - 13 cm diameter

No glue (assembly is super study)

Paper used - Rainbow colours by @tuttleorigami

Many many thanks to Khin @kh.art.craft and Michal @mkosmul for helping me understand this polyhedron structure.

I also did a Collab with Khin 30 March, 7:30 pm India time, we assembled together for about an hour, though we couldn't complete. It was a joyful experience. I never did IG LIVE before... So talking with Khin and assembling was fun. Many many thanks Khin.

While i was thinking to fold this polyhedron, i was analysing the geometric structure. I was confused between 90 unit and 120 unit structures. I finally contacted both Michal and Khin and they were kind enough to take time and explain me in detail. Here's the difference between the two 90 unit and 120 unit structures.

The below one is truncated icosahedron which takes 90 units

The below one is 120 unit structure

90 unit sonobe variation

90 unit sonobe variation

Sonobe unit designed by Bennett Arnstein

90 units; no glue

5 cm square

Final model height : 8.5 cm

Tutorial by @mathsoforigami

Japanese washi paper by @tuttleorigami

90 unit sonobe was in my to do list for a long time. Few months back i chose one of Meenakshi's cube designs and folded about 30 units. I stopped later as something came up in personal life. Last week i decided to continue this, realised I've forgotten which design i took. So had to chuck all my work...

While browsing for 90 unit designs i came across @mathsoforigami tutorial. Though for assembly i didn't follow the technique shown in video. I went one unit addition at a time. When i started assembly i was doubtful that it can get confusing but then could figure out without problem...

Kusudama by Nobuko Okabe

This unit is designed by Nobuko Okabe

This is a 90 unit model. I've used 3 inch harmony paper. 60 units of one colour and 30 units of another colour. So the hexagon has alternating colours. Basically looks more beautiful..

The assembly is extremely sturdy... It was a pleasure to assemble... Can be put together without any glue... I loved this model and it's sturdiness..

I saw this fold by Maurizio Bonavita on Instagram and got inspired to fold...

For size reference I've placed it beside 30 unit sonobe and bascetta star. You can see it's huge...

Sea lilies kusudama

Origami kusudama sea lilies

Designed by Aldos Marcell

30 units. I used 2 inch x 4 inch paper

Glue is used for assembly

Even with glue the assembly is little tricky. Especially the last piece was really hard. I started this kusudama few months back. I lost interest in the middle because of the tricky assembly. I assembled 99% and gave up... I kept the last piece and the unfinished model in my storage box... Recently i opened my box to keep some models and i realised this was not finished. Then i revisited and finished.

I didn't want to post because I was not at all happy with my work. But decided to post it anyway.

Hearty cube

Hearty cube designed by Meenakshi Mukerji

I had folded 1x1 and 2x2 cubes before. This one is 4x4 cube.

I was inspired by Uschi and Valentina's  work on Instagram and folded this.

As this unit requires 96, 1:2 ratio rectangles, i thought of using 10 cm squares. But the Tuttle package i had, did not have 48 sheets. So I ordered a similar 10 cm package on Amazon. But Amazon sent me wrong package... 6 inch package(in place of 4 inch) instead, which i returned later. So I tried with 7.5 cm squares and i was able to fold. It took me 2 or 3 days to complete this.

Paper size used : 1.5 inch x 3 inch

Final model : 7.5 cm cube

Paper used: milky way patterns from Tuttle publising

I used glue , it'll be quite challenging to assemble otherwise.

Tutorial to fold can be found in Meenakshi's YouTube channel
