I was looking for the name of the Polyhedron. I searched for sometime, finally found in Meenakshi's book, Marvelous modular origami..
Making units is very simple. Assembly is not as scary as the name. It's fairly simple once we understand the pattern.
I took almost 6-7 hours. I was half way and realised things were not falling into place. I had made a mistake.. It was little confusing. I had to rework a little bit to get to the right track. But it's not a difficult model... Totally loved the process.
I have used Tuttles @tuttleorigami milky way papers. To make the units i divided the 6 inch to 3 inch square units.
60 units. I took 3 inch square papers... I first assembled completely without glue. Then i realised the model is very unstable. It becomes hard to store and handle in future. So I disassembled and assembled again using glue. It's geometric shape is Icosidodecahedron.
I had my eye on this kusudama from a long time. It's a high intermediate model which requires lot of time and patience. I took almost a week to complete this. 30 roses. 30 units. I started with 8 inch square bigger paper initially to practice rose. And then I took 6 inch papers to fold the roses and decided to stick with 6 inch papers. But i couldn't estimate the size of the final model. By the time i finished and started assembly, i realised I'm gonna get a huge kusudama. To compare the size I've kept a Bascetta star which i folded using 3 inch papers. Even for assembly smaller sheet might work better. May be I'll try it some other time with smaller papers.. but i totally loved this kusudama... The whole process was enjoyable..
I've been doing origami for more than a decade now and it has always been my dream to display it somewhere. i once(in 2013 if i'm not wrong) displayed my models in sunnyvale public library california and it looked so beautiful. since then i wished to buy a curio to showcase my folds at home. recently this wish resurfaced in my mind and i went searching for a glass cabinet. the best i could get was one from ikea @ikea.india
I bought this glass cabinet and last two days i spent some time in decorating it. please take a look and also i made a short video with close up view
This curio has all the models folded by me in the time period 2019 to till now. i emptied one box out of 3 big boxes... i still don't know what to do with other boxes. in 2019 i had to discard whatever i did till then and it hurt me badly... atleast now i've found a nice home to my models..
